Embracing principles of recovery in turbulent times

We find ourselves navigating what may be one of the most tumultuous periods in modern history. Society is rife with divisions that penetrate every aspect of life, fueling ignorance and fear, despite our unprecedented access to global knowledge through endless streams of media. This backdrop of strife underscores the vital importance of the principles of recovery, not just in personal health, but in fostering a community rooted in growth and resilience.

The Genesis of Our Mission with Recovery 101

This organization was born from my personal battle with addiction and the transformative power of the 12-step program that not only saved my life but also gave it new meaning. Our mission is simple yet profound: to extend these life-saving principles to everyone who hears out message. This is not just a professional mandate, but a personal one as well, ingrained into the very fabric of our interactions.

The Non-Negotiable Principles

Honesty: In a world where truth often appears fluid, our foundation is the solid ground of verifiable facts. This organization values the courage to uphold truth, recognizing that honesty is not just about being right, but about being real.

Hope: Amidst a society where dreams can be easily crushed by both circumstances and cynics, we stand as a beacon of hope. Remember Anne Frank’s words, "Look at how a single candle can both defy and define the darkness." Hope is our candle in the dark.

Faith: In times of chaos, the lack of faith in something greater than ourselves can be debilitating. Whether it's a higher power, the intrinsic value of life, or the human spirit, faith is our anchor, providing the trust and confidence necessary to nurture recovery.

Courage: This principle is particularly poignant in an era dominated by fear—a pandemic, social upheavals, and a barrage of media-induced panic. It takes courage to face these fears and to help others do the same.

Integrity: More than just honesty, integrity involves a moral compass that guides us even when no one is watching. This principle ensures that our actions align with our values, especially crucial in guiding those recovering from addiction.

Willingness: Preparation and commitment are key to embodying willingness. It’s about being ready and able to do the work necessary, not just within the confines of our roles but beyond, pouring into others what has been cultivated within ourselves.

Humility: In an age where everyone’s voice can be amplified, humility teaches us to listen, to value others' contributions, and to place service over self-importance. The quietest person in the room often has the most to teach us.

Love: Perhaps the most misunderstood yet essential principle, love is about deep, genuine care—not just for others but also for ourselves. It’s about acting from a place of selflessness and compassion.

Discipline, Patience, Perseverance: These three are intertwined, each fostering the ability to endure despite challenges, to wait with grace, and to persist with determination. They are vital in both personal recovery and professional service.

Awareness: True awareness is not about being politically correct or culturally savvy; it’s about understanding the reality of our environment and those we serve, based on direct experience and observation.

Service: The essence of our work. Service is not merely a task but an opportunity to genuinely assist others, reflecting our commitment to the principles we uphold.

 A Call to Action

Our commitment to these principles is unwavering. They are not merely guidelines; they are requirements for our continued effort to heal, to grow, and to lead in recovery. As we navigate these challenging times, these principles are not just our tools but our anchors, ensuring that we remain focused on what truly matters—helping others rebuild their lives.

As we implement these principles, we do so not out of obligation, but from a genuine desire to see real change—in ourselves, in our clients, and in the world around us. This is our pledge to you, and an invitation to join us in this journey of recovery and rediscovery, where every step forward is a step toward a better, healthier community.
